Grapevines retain a molecular memory through centuries of cloning
Researchers have discovered that grapevines propagated by cloning for centuries maintain remarkably stable epigenetic marks alongside their DNA. By assembling detailed genomes of Cabernet Sauvignon and its parents, the study demonstrates that these chemical regulators are inherited almost as reliably as the genetic code itself.
