Museum DNA Reveals Urgent Threats to Montane Pheasant Populations
By analyzing whole-genome sequencing data from museum specimens, researchers identified six distinct populations of the Koklass Pheasant, revealing significant genetic differentiation and vulnerability among them. Notably, the Anhui population faces severe threats due to low genetic diversity and predicted habitat loss from climate change, underscoring the urgent need for genomics-informed conservation strategies to protect this montane species.
