However, they want other scientists to test their ideas in the real world. To do this, the team proposes a clear, measurable test. They predict that doctors could measure the complexity of a person's heart rate variability.
Your heartbeat changes slightly depending on your stress levels and how flexible your nervous system is. If the maths holds up, this heart data will show a clear physical difference between a brain that is just familiar with a stressful topic and a brain that is rigidly fixated on it.
