"Think of scientific publishing like a baking competition. The core idea is the recipe, but the capability is having a massive, expensive kitchen. A baker with a basic oven might have a better recipe, but the one with the fancy kitchen often wins. In this study, the AI tools acted like inspectors analysing the competition, revealing that the size and resources of the kitchen heavily influenced the judges' final scores, even when the underlying recipe was sound."

For decades, scientific progress has occasionally stalled because of how research is evaluated. Brilliant ideas often get stuck in a complex publishing system. Researchers with fewer resources struggle to get their work noticed, a challenge particularly relevant as we look toward the data-heavy future of genomic medicine. The scientific community needs a better way to filter and fund the best ideas.
