Have you ever tried to find a tiny moving part inside a large, busy factory? It is quite a challenge! Inside your cells, tiny machines called DNA helicases are constantly zipping around like busy workers. They pull apart the two strands of your DNA so the cell can read, copy, or repair your genetic code. This defence system keeps your DNA safe. But for a long time, scientists struggled to see exactly where these workers were doing their jobs. Now, researchers have developed a clever new technique for DNA helicase activity mapping. They created a way to track these tiny machines by leaving a chemical footprint right on the DNA.
